Doolin, the Great Dane puppy, came home with us from California when he was 3 months old. We were very lucky his breeder, Kathleen Davis, placed him with us. He is a patient loving quirky Mantle Great Dane who stole our hearts. He was aptly named “Davishire’s Moving Hearts”. He retired from showing when he earned his Grand Champion title. Doolin was one of the first Grand Champion natural earred Mantle Great Danes, as the mantle color had only been recently allowed to show and almost all Great Danes shown had cropped ears. We were warned it would take much longer to earn a Champion title with natural ears, but Doolin completed his championship fairly quickly. He was a nice Dane with a lovely long muzzle, great ear set, marvelous topline, a good croup and beautiful shoulder angle. His movement exhibits great reach and drive. He easily earned his Champion title and then with another year of showing earned his Grand Champion title.

Health Testing Info: Doolin had all health tests performed, but his hips did not pass as they showed mild dysplasia in one side. Fortunately it never bothered him in the 10 years he was with us.

Doolin easily earned his Championship title and Grand Championship title. Doolin’s Championship required majors were both from Specialty shows. This was such an honor because Specialty judges are usually Great Dane breeders and they are excellent evaulators of Great Danes. Doolin’s show career started off with a bang in Shelton, WA at the Great Dane Club of Western Washington’s Specialties. He did shockingly well for a 6 month old puppy. He was first Best Opposite in Sweeps, then was awarded Winner’s Dog and Best Puppy for a 4pt major. Later in the weekend, he was awarded Reserve Winner’s Dog. During his journey toward his Championship, he was awarded Winner’s Dog in 6 of 7 shows.

Doolin left us in 2021, like many Danes, his mobility became impaired and we had to let him go. He was my constant companion during Covid and helped me through the passing of my mother. There are really no words significant enough to say what he meant to me. Before he passed away we were lucky enough to add another 4 legged family member to our family. Zefram arrived as a 9 week old puppy. Now Doolin absolutely HATED puppies, I mean wouldn’t enter the same room that they were in, but I knew he didn’t have long left and I wanted our other Dane, Remy to have canine companionship, so we brought Zefram home. The shocking thing was that Doolin LOVED Zefram, always wanted to be in the same room with him. Even tolerated Zefram being in his crate with him. He didn’t want to play, but he did want to hang out with Zefram. It was a lovely thing really. I was quite glad we had brought Zefram home and he and Doolin bonded as they did. Zefram has a very loving heart and Doolin must have seen this.
